Türkiye Health Data Research and Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute and National Institutes of Health Office of Data Science and Strategy (ODSS) Online Meeting
An online meeting was held between the Türkiye Health Data Research and Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute and the National Institutes of Health Office of Data Science and Strategy (ODSS) on 13.11.2023. The meeting was led by Prof. Dr. Songul VARLI, President of Türkiye Health Data Research and Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute (TÜYZE) and started with mutual acquaintance with the valuable participation of TÜYZE team and Office of Data Science and Strategy (ODSS) Deputy Director General Dr. Belinda SETO and Program Director Dr. Shu 'Sue' Hui CHEN. The main theme of the meeting was the "Applications of Artificial Intelligence Discussion". Prof. Songul VARLI introduced TÜSEB and TÜYZE and talked about the size and storage of data in the field of health in Turkey and the studies on the use of data for public health. Prof. VARLI talked about MHRS, e-Nabız and teleradiology systems and shared numerical data on the Open Data Health Portal, which was launched to enable researchers to use health data in Turkey.
Talking about the Office of Data Science and Strategy (ODSS), Dr. SETO stated that each of the 27 institutes within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) produces unique data and has clinical data domains, and the mission of ODSS is to manage the data created by the institutes. About the importance of sharing health data, Dr. SETO mentioned the necessity of reusing the data again. Addressing ethical concerns in the storage and sharing of health data, Dr. SETO talked about the STRIDES initiative, which provides a cloud-based integrated ecosystem within ODSS.
The meeting discussed the procedure and benefits of storing health data in a cloud-based ecosystem in collaboration with the private sector. Ideas were exchanged on the mechanism for sharing data with researchers in addition of security measures, and laws to be applied. At the end of the meeting, there were good wishes to meet again for future TÜSEB-ODSS cooperation.
