Data Infrastructure Development Workshop for Artificial Intelligence in Health was held

"Data Infrastructure Development Workshop for Artificial Intelligence in Health" was held online on November 24, 2021 by TÜYZE in order to enable the use of medical data within the body of the Ministry of Health in artificial intelligence research in health and to determine a roadmap for the development of decision support systems that will increase the development level of our country in the field of health.

President of TÜSEB Prof. Dr. Erhan Akdoğan made the opening speech in the workshop, which was held with the participation of researchers from the important universities of our country, health experts, experts from the Ministry of Health General Directorate of Health Information Systems (SBSGM), and industry stakeholders.

In the morning sessions of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Bedir Tekinerdoğan from Wageningen made a presentation on “General Architecture of Health Information Ecosystems” after Director of TÜYZE Prof. Dr. Songül Varlı made an informative presentation on the aim and scope of the workshop. Following the session in which Ersan İmrat and Emrah Karakaş, the experts from SBSGM, informed the participants about The Current Structure Used in Maintaining Medical Data within The Ministry of Health, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ural Koç working at Ankara City Hospital Interventional Radiology Unit shared the points to be considered and the difficulties experienced while preparing health data for use in scientific research in his presentation on the Sample Data Preparation Process for Health Data.

Since health data is included in the scope of Sensitive Personal Data in Personal Data Protection Law, SBSGM IT Law Consultant Atty. Saide Begüm Feyzioğlu emphasized the sensitivities needed when using health data in research during her presentation “The Legal Aspect of Health Data Management”. The last presentation of the morning sessions belonged to Prof. Dr. İlhan İlkılıç, The Dean of Turkish – German University Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences, and Dr. Orhan Önder and they made a presentation on “Ethical Problem Areas in the Application of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Systems in the Field of Health.”

In the afternoon sessions of the workshop, Focus Group Meetings were held under the headings of “Identification of Existing Problems, Solution Suggestions/Opportunities and Planning of Institutional Activities and Investments for Health Information Systems”, in which the participants were divided into groups according to the fields of work they represent. In the last session of the workshop, with the joint participation of all stakeholders, the topics discussed at the workshop were summarized, and a road map was determined to enable the use of medical data in artificial intelligence research in health and to develop decision support systems that will increase the development level of our country in the field of health.
